Prime Beef Festival Float - September 5, 2018
This great opportunity will bring members young and old together to explore the themes of Lent. Play with dirt, and feel in a different way the saying "ashes to ashes, dust to dust, earth to earth." Learn how Lent can renew spiritual habits, and enjoy some great refreshments.
Join us after worship on the 2nd Sunday of the month, March 10th, for a coffee hour in the church narthex. This coffee hour will serve up great tasting coffee and treats and will give us a chance to connect as God's family after worship. We are hoping to restart our coffee hour tradition beginning on March 10th. So be sure to stay with us after worship and enjoy a cup of coffee, a treat, and good times with your church family.
Make March 10th a great family day at the church as we learn together in Sunday school and stay after worship for our coffee hour!
Join us on the five Wednesdays of Lent – March 13, 20, 27 and April 3 & 10 – for a mid-week family faith experience. We will begin at 5:30 PM in the fellowship hall with a simple dinner hosted by one of the committees of the church. At 6:00 PM we will have a faith experience that will engage our hearts in new and refreshing ways.
Following a pattern of faith practices, we will share with one another things we
are thankful for and things we regret; we will read a scripture story, sing a hymn, watch a brief video related to our Bible story, pray together and bless one another for our journey ahead. This simple practice will draw us closer not only to God but to one another as we live our faith with one another in engaging ways.
Our Bible stories and videos will focus on Simon Peter, the Sadducees and
Pharisees, Mary and Martha, Judas Iscariot, and Pontius Pilate. Each of these characters also play a role in the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection. Join us this Lent as we learn more about who these characters were and why they are important in our Bible story.
Many of you are aware that we have a group of ladies here that meet once a month to make quilts for Lutheran World Relief distribution to third world country refugees, or natural disaster relief in our own country. Last year, First Lutheran made 36 quilts to add to others made by ELCA churches throughout the U.S.
On Saturday, March 16th, the Sewing Circle invites anyone interested to a special one-day participation in the process of quilt making, from cutting fabric squares to sewing the final binding. Bring your scissors and come for a 9 AM to 11:30 AM session in the church fellowship hall. Of course there will be a coffee and goodies break!
For more information, keep an eye on church bulletins & emails, or call Rose Youngquist at (309) 734-2944.
“Those who sleep under a quilt, sleep under a blanket of love.”
Sunday, March 17th from 3 PM to 5 PM, the entire church family is invited to a Bowling & Pizza Party at Roseville Lanes in Roseville. The Christian Education Committee is paying for a round of bowling for all who wish to bowl. If you don’t want to bowl, join us anyway for the fun of cheering on those who are bowling, then stay for the pizza. This will be a great way to grow together as a family of God. And, this just in – Pastor Jamie will have a special prize for the youngest member of our church who matches or beats his score.
In recognition of Anna Lovdahl retiring as our Volunteer Library Coordinator, we will have Coffee & Fellowship between services on Sunday, March 24th.
Join us as we begin a new tradition, using the 5th Sunday of the month to gather for a pot-luck luncheon after the worship service. Everyone is invited to bring a dish to pass. Our first pot-luck will be Sunday, March 31st. This is another great opportunity to sit and visit with our church family and grow stronger in our ties with one another. Everyone is welcome to join us!
